Create an elegant, elongated, self-portrait in the style of Italian artist Modigliani.
We will all look at ourselves in a mirror and imagine that we are seeing ourselves through a filter that stretches our features. I will guide everyone through the process using oil pastels. There is no “perfect” here, the more stretched out and exaggerated the better! Bold colors and color mixing is encouraged. After that it is time to collage. Using a variety of papers, stamps, stickers and other art materials create a quilt like background. Use words, phrases, images, and drawings and pictures to describe yourself and what you like. Even better, describe each other! These pieces are then glued in a patchwork pattern around the portrait creating a totally unique expression of self.
