Prevention Educator-Outpatient Behavioral Health

Position Summary

The Prevention Educator is responsible for providing substance use services, social and emotional well-being, violence prevention and gambling education in assigned classes in school districts within Putnam County, while maintaining a positive relationship with school personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements evidence-based alcohol and drug education and prevention curriculum to students, school personnel, and parents in assigned school districts; this occasionally may include evening and weekend assignments.
  • Meets 100% of all established KPIs as it pertains to measurable outcomes, engagement, and feedback from students, school personnel, and parents. Including maintaining a positive relationship with school and community personnel.
  • Assures that 100% of all documentation/statistics are completed in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with the OASAS prevention guidelines.
  • Attends 100% of required training, workshops, conferences, and staff development seminars on current practices as assigned to support continuing education in the appropriate field; implements what has been learned within specified time frames.
  • Attends and participates in the Putnam County Communities that Care Coalition’s meetings, Youth Bureau/Youth Court meetings, SIDNE events, Health tabling events, and Camp Herrlich summer program as assigned.
  • Plans and collaborates in community campaigns including Red Ribbon Week, Prevention Week, Problem Gambling, and Table Talk Tuesday events.
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned.

Administrative Relationships:

The Prevention Educator reports directly to the Prevention Supervisor, Program Director or designee and works collaboratively with other staff and the school administration.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s prepared Qualified Health Professional (QHP)* with two years’ related work experience.  Must have basic computer literacy and excellent verbal and written skills.  Position requires the ability to travel and use of own car.

*QHP includes Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Credentialed Problem Gambling Counselor, Certified Teacher, Certified Health Educator, Certified School Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Master Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Professional Nurse, Licensed Physician, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and National Board-Certified Counselor, CPS and CPP (certified prevention specialist/professional).
