ANNOUNCEMENTS

CoveCare Center created quite a “buzz” on Wednesday, May 15th, when 15 teams gathered at Centennial Golf Club for some friendly competition and teambuilding to out spell each other for the 1st Place Championship.

CEO Eric Toth kicked off the evening by introducing County Executive Kevin Byrne, who read the first round of words to the enthusiastic crowd. Veteran emcee Bill Hammond of Edward Jones, and CoveCare Center VP of Programs Krista Zanfardino then took over to lead the teams as they spelled their way through almost six rounds of words and eliminations before the remaining four teams entered the championship challenge.

The competition heated up before Brewster Rotary and Brewster Chamber of Commerce “Team Bizee Bees” claimed the 1st Place Trophy by correctly spelling the word “chiaroscuro”, meaning “the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting.” The 2023 1st Place Winning Team, Patterson Rotary ”Team F-ing Bees”, claimed the 2nd Place Trophy. The Plaza at Clover Lake Team "The Clover Bees" was awarded the coveted Most Enthusiastic Team Trophy.

Other teams who attempted to out spell each other at this lively event included Nuvance Health, Mahopac Library, Camp Herrlich, Key Bank, Kathleen M. Valletta, Hudson Valley Credit Union, PCSB Bank/Foundation, Carmel/Brewster Flower Club, and Search for Change

Many thanks to all of our sponsors, teams and volunteers for being a part of this great evening!

Prevention Inspiring Art

Our Prevention Team works diligently in the Putnam County schools, implementing Evidence-Based Curriculums to prevent substance and alcohol use and teach social and emotional learning skills. They also inspire art from the students they work with and were touched to receive this beautiful piece from a Mahopac student as a “thank you” for what they do. “This is beyond moving to us”, commented Barbara Naccari-Mueller, CoveCare Prevention Educator. “Gestures like these motivates us to keep reaching students.”

BYRNE SECURES $50,000 GRANT FOR COVECARE CENTER FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS

“CoveCare provides a tremendous amount of mental health services for the people who live in and around Putnam County,” said Byrne. “I am proud to announce that, this past legislative session, we were able to identify and secure funding to assist CoveCare in moving forward with several capital improvements needed in their Carmel facility. I am eager to see them complete their plans to make improvements that will enhance soundproofing for client privacy, and update both the facility’s flooring and bathrooms. Mental health care is health care, and it is critical we provide workers and patients with safe and modern working conditions.”
